DOMINICAN ORIGINAL Gorilla, robusto (5x66).  Dominican Republic.

This really should be called a robusto gordo.  Gordo means fat, and this handful feels like a tandem of D-cells.

Like many hard core cigar lovers, I eschew status-symbol accessories.  I love the scissors in my Swiss Army pen knife for specialized cigar cutting.  I easily nibbled a concave opening in the cap, about half the diameter of the cigar.  Now I could put this monster to my lips and draw without the feeling of sucking on a flashlight.

The cigar is actually a Casa Blanca Half Jeroboam segundo.  Tidal waves of smoke roll through, making the mild flavor seem very rich.  It starts off spicy and nutty and then settles to smooth with dark fruit.  As it burns down, it gets deeper and creamier.  A nice, cool smoke for a sunny day.

The Gorilla smiles with port or cognac but is just as good with tea.  A great daytime cigar, it doesn’t need alcohol.  About $3.00.
