SALE E PEPE is located a couple of blocks from Harrod's and seems to attract the happening local crowd.  This is a relatively small Italian restaurant with tables crowded together.  The waiters are rushing around singing, yelling orders at each other, and giving customers a constant stream of wisecracks.  I love it!  Ater ten years, I still love this atmosphere.  It is bright, cheerful, and just kind of friendly place you would expect in your neighborhood, not in London.

As you might have figured out to survive in the very competitive London restaurant scene, eateries, must be exceptional.  Sale E Pepe is!  The food is basic Southern Italian with generous portions.  My absolute favorite is the broasted baby chicken and a side of pasta.  The English love their fish; they are not disappointed here.  There is always a fresh catch of the day, such as sole and you can request your favorite preparation.  Risotto dishes vary, but don't order a heavy appetizer or you won't have room for an entrée.  Everything is a la carte, and vegetable portions are big enough to share.  To me  the hallmark of a great Italian is the bread -- Sale E Pepe passes with flying colors.  The olive oil the provide is the best!

The wine list is limited and somewhat expensive by U.S. standards. Unfortunately, that's London.

The small bar and reception area are cigar friendly.  Pricing is fair by London standards.  Reservations suggested.
