Cigar Friendly Restaurants

Cafe Harlow

Located in the Pavilion Building at the HOLLYWOOD CASINO this elegant restaurant was designed in an Art Deco style that seems very appropriate. Management is catering to the high-end spenders and yet still has created a terrific menu that won’t require two (2) trips to the cash machine. Let’s prioritize - CIGAR FRIENDLY with a selection of fresh quality brands available right as you enter the Restaurant.

It is a basic well-rounded menu with special emphasis on fish - if the Parmesan Crusted Flounder is available ($17.95), go for it. Very creative preparation with a hint of light citrix butter. The Whole Maine Lobster - prepared either steamed or broiled was as good if not better than any around town. The Chef - Jerry Dunn, is well trained and given the time will modify dishes to accommodate special requests. The appetizers were wonderful but the standout was Sautéed Veal Medallion with roasted tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese (share this dish). For everyone who has to eat their vegetables if they want dessert have the Grilled Vegetable Terrine as a starter - very special. Portions are very generous. The Kansas City Strip matched the best steak houses around in quality and was cooked to perfection.

Let’s spend time on the Wine List - for openers there are seventeen (17) Champagnes and Sparkling Wines. On the high end - the Poederen Cristal 1989 at $150.00 is very fairly priced compared to competitors who charge $200 plus for the same item. The Bologna Special Cuvee at $40.00 is a bargain (Mitezah). What is interesting is the pricing structure of the whole wine list - inexpensive. The Chicagoland Favorite - Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is $23.00. We’ve seen the same bottle consistently priced over $30.00. The basic wine list is well balanced and your wait staff is very attentive and professional and under the supervision of Maitre’D Maximillion. Talk about experience - you have questions ask "Max". The dessert selection was limited but all four (4) sampled were good. We’re always impressed with a restaurant that offers a separate menu of after dinner cordials. HARLOW’S is fabulous.
