ZinfandelThe wine list is outstanding as long as you have American wines. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the best selections are in the Zinfandels. Zinfandel only carries American mad spirits and wines. The wines by the glass are reasonably priced. Zinfandel also has fabulous Vodka and Gin. For all of you Bourbon drinkers, Zinfandel carries the best selections in town. Ask for guidance.
There are two menus featured nightly and monthly, an American theme that is seasonal and regional in nature. There are many great items offered. Remember, Zinfandel prides itself on an all-American theme; August was Hawaii, October was the Pacific Northwest.
The owners, Susan and Drew Goss, are a wonderfully matched couple. Sue is the chef and Drew conducts the front. He personally matches the wines to Sues incredible creations.
Zinfandel offers appetizer samplers such as Chilled Melon Soup served with an herb-brioche, Carolina Rock Shrimp Cocktail, Oklahoma style Barbecue Spare Ribs, and biscuits with everything. It was only fabulous, but reasonably priced.
As for the entrees: Don't believe them when they offer "Pot Roast". We all remember "Mama's". Believe me, if it was this good we wouldn't have left home. Not too wild about the chicken either. However, the wood grilled fresh vegetables are outstanding.
Presentation is as creative as anywhere in Chicago and contrary to the all American theme, Zinfandel has stretched the west to achieve the quality and beauty of the seafood creations.
Desserts are creative and American. Whatever is featured is satisfactory.
Pricing is very reasonable, given the quality and creativity. Zinfandel stands alone in Chicago in its excitement and willingness to be unique.
